In accordance with the European "Decree ….for determining the general principles and requirements of Food Ordinance”, food is defined as all material and substances, whether in processed, semi-processed or raw condition, meant for human consumption, or which can be rationally expected to be consumed by humans.

The following also count as foodstuff: drinks, chewing gum, as well as all substances, including water, which are deliberately used for the processing, production and handling of foodstuff.
